Did you know? Cows must be made pregnant to produce milk. Calves are taken away from their mothers just 48 hours after birth, which is incredibly traumatic for mother and baby. As male calves won’t produce milk they are either reared for veal or, as many breeds can’t be reared for meat, simply shot at birth. Find out more.
How much?! It takes 1,050 litres of water to produce 1 litre of cows’ milk, but it only takes 297 litres of water to produce the equivalent of soya milk. And then there’s all the nasty stuff that runs off into our waterways, like slurry and chemicals. Find out more here and here.
